Tektronix’ IMS solution proves successful in industry forum tests

(Product News, 16 Aug 2007 )

Tektronix, Inc. has announced the successful multi-vendor inter-operation of its Spectra2 IMS solution at the IMS Forum's second IMS Plugfest held in June for application and service interoperability. Plugfest II focused on interoperability for VoIP, IP Centrex, IP PBX, SMS and fixed mobile convergence.

Spectra2 provides network operators and equipment manufacturers a comprehensive Single Box IMS Test and Generation solution. The solution offers core IMS testing through support of the SIP and Diameter protocols, and supports signaling and media protocols and codecs for associated PSTN and VoIP access. Spectra2’s SIP dynamic parameter management capabilities position the solution as a leading SIP testing platform for IMS and VoIP environments.

Tektronix demonstrated Spectra2’s key IMS protocols Diameter and SIP, performed element emulation of IMS functions, including x-CSCF, HSS, SIP and UA, and inter-networked with multiple element vendor participants under load and functional test conditions.

“IMS complexity and interoperability continue to be challenges for network operators and equipment manufacturers. The success of our tests with Spectra2 at Plugfest II validates our first-hand experience in protocol competency and demonstrates the readiness of our solution for the IMS market, which enable us to deliver a solution that helps our customers meet these challenges head on,” said Richard Kenedi, General Manager, Network Diagnostics, Tektronix. “As operators introduce new services with their equipment and software partners, we can help them ensure the quality of their services from development through deployment.”

Tektronix also participated in the inaugural Plugfest held in January. That Plugfest focused on basic IP voice, routing fundamentals and the interoperability of the IMS transport layer. The IMS Plugfests are a series of open testing events that are designed to foster interoperability by establishing an industry-recognized Interoperability certification for IMS services and applications. The Plugfest testing events are creating industry-recognized interoperability test plans for IMS applications and services, allowing service providers to expedite IMS service rollout.
